Grand Dad’s Old Watch

Some fellers have their Grandfathers saddle, others their grandfathers gun. But all that I have of my Grand Dad’s is a old Ingersol watch that don’t run.

I think he gave for it only two dollars back when the watch was brand new. He could not afford a good watch strap so he secured it with a string from a shoe.

The damn thing ticked so loudly you could hear it from six feet away. At night before bed, he would wind it the last thing he done everyday.

He carried that watch in a pocket of a vest he wore everyday. For years he was never without it whether at work, or at rest, or at play

Now the case is all battered and dented the finish has all worn away. But for the 40 odd years he wore it it kept the right time everyday.

So you can keep your hand tooled saddles or your nickle plated guns. I’ll just keep Grand Dad’s old Ingersol watch the one that don’t even run.
